May Day Beltane celebration!

Stanton Drew Stone Circle

I woke just before 5am this morning with a sudden desire to cycle to the stone circle to join the Beltane ceremony and welcome in the summer. We set off a bright and fiery sun which had just cleared the horizon. A very apt start for a journey to a fire festival!

We packed porridge in food flasks and enjoyed the ride through empty country roads and morning birdsong. We were greeted with an awesome first sight on arrival at the stone circle; the only sun rays escaping the clouds were directly above which illuminated the scene in the centre of the landscape.

I enjoyed the shared circle we formed, together honouring the directions, elements and nature, and in particular, fire and fertility. It was very activating and connecting. The singing was beautiful and the blessings meaningful for someone in adoration of nature and all its wild wisdom. There was humour, honestly and playfulness. And so much joy as we sang and spiralled to the drum beat!

It was a beautiful way to honour the arrival of summer and reminded me of a song taught to me on a singing walk with Sorrel Wilde. Enjoy! ...and welcome to the Summer!
